Permanent Committee for Streamlining Business Environment & Enhancing Competitiveness holds a meeting

The Permanent Committee for Streamlining Business Environment and Enhancing Competitiveness in the State of Kuwait (PCK) held a meeting in the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority (KDIPA) premises on November 7, 2017. The Chairman of the PCK, KDIPA’s Director General Sheikh Dr. Meshaal Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah opened the meeting welcoming the members particularly the new member from the Capital Markets Authority (CMA), who joined other members from the Ministries of Commerce & Industry, Justice, Electricity & Water, Finance, the Central Bank of Kuwait, Kuwait Municipality, the General Directorate for Customs, the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning & Development, the Public Authority for Manpower, the Public Authority for Civil Information, Kuwait Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Kuwait Economics Society, and Kuwait National Competitiveness Committee.

Dr. Meshaal commended national efforts that contributed to make a shift in Kuwait’s rank and score in the Distance to Frontier (DTF) measure achieved in the latest Ease of Doing Business Index 2018, published by the World Bank Group (WBG) on October 31, 2017. He reiterated that the road remains long to achieve aspired improvements in doing business and will need the continuous and concerted efforts of all concerned parties.

An analytical overview was presented on Kuwait’s position in the Ease of Doing Business Index 2018 (DB2018). In addition a proposal was submitted for consideration aiming at improving coordination channels between concerned entities and the PCK by establishing sub-committees based on topics of the DB Index headed by relevant entity. A presentation was given on the use of Tahseen Dashboard to ensure all laws, measures, and decisions are timely documented and recorded, to ensure fulfilment of the “National Agenda for Streamlining Business Environment”, dubbed (Tahseen Program), as approved by the Council of Ministers.

The meeting concluded going over the upcoming steps to be implemented till the end of first quarter 2018, particularly completing second part of Tahseen Program for the remaining topics with technical support by the World Bank.
